actor, visual storyteller, and shadow theatre artist based in armenia.
I am an actor. In my practice, I combine performative art, storytelling techniques, and visual thinking. The merging of these elements creates a space where I can freely explore my sensations and emotional states.
Through visual storytelling, I release my spiritual-sensory field from events and influences that occur beyond my control. Digital drawing allows me, in a dark space on a luminous screen, to leave traces of the feelings that disturb me through the movement of my hand, and to give form to my inner sensory world.
The texts I create are impulsive codifications of my sensations.
Shadow theatre is a performative space where story, image, and sound remain in shadow. The shadow is intangible, immaterial, non-corporeal — a safe space.
Why shadow theatre?
I am an actor by profession, and shadows are images. I have been drawing since childhood. It was a safe space for me, where I could express my joys, anxieties, and curiosities.
Today, wandering through different branches of art, I am searching for myself and my true sensations. I am discovering my spiritual-sensory world, shaped by external factors and influences.
By circumstance, I am Armen Balabanyan.
